How to track ad campaign links with a UTM Builder
UTM links help you understand where campaign traffic came from. They are simple tags added to a URL, and they work best when your naming stays consistent.
What a UTM link does
A UTM link is a normal landing page URL with campaign parameters attached. The UTM Builder adds those parameters locally and does not fetch your website.
Use UTM links for ads, email newsletters, social posts, creator links, or any campaign where you want clearer reporting later.
Use clear names
Source usually names the platform or publisher, such as google, newsletter, or linkedin. Medium describes the channel, such as cpc, email, or social. Campaign names should describe the promotion in a way your team will still understand later.
Term and content are optional. They are useful for separating keywords, ad variations, buttons, placements, or creatives.
Keep a naming pattern
Decide whether your team uses lowercase words, hyphens, or underscores, then stick with it. Consistency matters more than perfection because reports are easier to filter when names do not drift.
Review performance after traffic arrives
After campaigns run, pair your tagged links with simple calculators like the ROAS Calculator, CPA Calculator, or Google Ads Budget Calculator. These tools use the numbers you enter and do not connect to ad accounts.
A simple UTM checklist
- Use the final landing page URL.
- Set source, medium, and campaign before sharing the link.
- Use term or content only when they help reporting.
- Test the final URL in a browser before launching ads.
- Keep campaign naming consistent across platforms.
